Our In-Home training option is a fabulous way to get the personalized help and attention you want and need in the convenience of your own home or out and about in the places you are having behavior problems. Your trainer comes to you and then you and your dog have your trainer’s undivided attention.
Your professional trainer will install the new skills you want your dog to have, test them and work in a variety of contexts and then hand off the dog to you for coaching, practice, maintenance and …life. You can be there during training sessions to learn with your dog if you like or you can be away taking care of work, family or other pressing needs while your Pro works with your dog and then catch up with us in a prescheduled Human Training handoff session of your own.
A professional trainer can get results faster and then show you how to maintain those behaviors for long lasting results at home or in the real world.
At A Good Dog Day, we are enthusiastic, some might say obsessed, with getting young puppies off to a great start emotionally and behaviorally. We work closely with Veterinarians and Breeders just for this purpose.
Arguably the most important time in a dog’s life is that 3-16 week period, known as the Socialization Period. This is a development period that sets the stage for a future confident and well rounded dog or a dog that struggles socially. It is imperative to start the socialization process as soon as your 8 week old puppy comes home (skilled breeders will have started this process for you).
We will explain what Socialization is and is not, how and when to go about the process of socializing your puppy and how to know if you are successful or if there are gaps to be worked on. We also help you with potty training, puppy manners, crate and chew training, bite inhibition, getting your puppy used to being handled, alone-time training, puppy proofing your home, etc. Any puppy that shows signs of fear, anxiety or aggression needs immediate help; contact your veterinarian to rule out physical issues, call us for training help.

Dogs will be dogs…for real, unless we give them skills and training to help them learn behaviors that would not ordinarily occur to them, or that might just conflict with what is natural to them. Believe it or not, it’s not natural for a dog to just walk past something yummy without eating it…heck, most people have a hard time with that.
If your dog is physically and emotionally able we can help your teenage and adult dogs learn the skills you want them to have, improve on the skills they already have or solve behavior problems. No dog is too old or too stubborn to learn!
We will help you understand how your dog learns, how to determine the motivation for his behavior, how to arrange his environment to prevent the behaviors you do not want and to make the behaviors you do want more likely. We will help you to teach, maintain and grow desired behaviors to meet ongoing needs.

If you have a dog over 6 months of age, he’s technically no longer a puppy and thus needs to be treated and trained as an adult. If he shows signs of fear, anxiety or aggression (barking, lunging, growling, biting, hiding, cowering, leaning away), it is no longer a socialization opportunity but a rehabilitation emergency. The reason for your dog’s concerned behavior could be multi faceted; there could be a genetic component, learned behavior, bad experiences, lack of socialization or any combination of the above.
The solution is systematic. We will meet with you and your dog to get a history, develop a management and training plan and schedule training sessions to desensitize and counter condition your dog to the things that bother him in addition to teaching him some additional coping skills / alternative behaviors.
The first step once we’ve received your inquiry is to schedule a time for us to chat, determine your training goals and to develop your personalized training plan. From there, no matter your choice of training delivery, we will be with you the entire way to achieve your behavior goals.
Cost: $150 for Initial Consultation / in-depth history & behavior assessment.
$575 for our basic management / getting started 6 session package.
$1080 for our more comprehensive 12 Session package, building fluency.

At A Good Dog Day, we can help you assess your dogs desire and skillset for the Therapy Dog role and help you to prepare for your team effort to improve the lives of others. We can run you through the typical skills assessment needed; which by the way also will prepare your dog for the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test.
Note: We do help people with service and emotional support dog training skills as we are able. Please be aware of the differing designations between Service Dogs, Emotional Support Dogs and Therapy Dogs. We are committed to ensuring compliance to the individual designations.
